Only excitement lately has been St. Patty’s in the Gaslamp and the beginning of baseball season. The races are still months away but hey… we still have some time before the tourist traffic arrives.

IRO jpegFrench Food, French Wine & French Fashion.

Who could ask for anything more?

Brothers Laurent and Arik Bitton are keeping it in the family with their beautiful clothing line, IRO. The fun flowing romantic energy of their clothing is a refreshing complement to the Southern California style. A little demure, a little vintage, a lot of style.

For your french longings, plan an uncrowded lunchtime shopping excursion to the East Village. Stop into Unsteady Boutique to discover a flair for the contemporay and chic, the unfettered. Peruse the aisles and their IRO selection to your hearts content.

Once you realize you are famished from the exertion of throwing down the credit card for your newfound spring additions, revitalize your batteries bit of french faire at Cafe Chloe. A steak tartine and a perfectly frothed cappucino… c’est la vie.

This family owned restaurant provides for a great meal and perfect place for an evening of family, friends and great Thai food. It is a small charming place traditionally decorated locale that gets packed quickly on the latter days of the work week and weekends. Take out is a popular option for the locals.

The crowd is an eclectic mix of modern corporate types, North County families and urbana skater/surfer hipsters.I started out with the Summer Rolls, 4 large, fresh rice-paper wrapped rolls of tofu, carrots, noodles and other veggies served with 2 dipping sauces that are superb, one warmed and sprinkled with peanuts. The Pineapple Fried Rice is a pleasant surprise with hints of coconut milk and lemon grass. The Curry & Panang were filled with savory flavors and made to order customized by the level of spicy heat from mild to extreme. The prices are moderate and provide a great value for the quality of food. I suggest you order family style so that you may experience multiple dishes to find your favorite.

The servers are gracious and remember their customers well. They make it a point to get your name and use it the next time you come to visit. They recall minor details and what your personal likes might be. For a small place, the comfortable atmosphere & moderate price provides you with an unexpected level of customer service.
